前寒武纪研究发表了关于地球及其邻近行星早期组成、结构和进化的所有方面的研究。本课程注重过程导向和比较研究，涵盖但不限于下列科目: (1)化学、生物、生化和宇宙化学演化;生命的起源;海洋和大气的演化;早期化石记录;古生物学; (2)地质年代学、同位素和元素地球化学; (3)前寒武纪矿床; (4)早期地球和前寒武纪地形的地球物理方面; (5)前寒武纪岩石圈和地幔的性质、形成和演化，包括岩浆作用、沉积作用、变质作用和构造作用。

Precambrian Research publishes studies on all aspects of the early stages of the composition, structure and evolution of the Earth and its planetary neighbours. With a focus on process-oriented and comparative studies, it covers, but is not restricted to, subjects such as:(1) Chemical, biological, biochemical and cosmochemical evolution; the origin of life; the evolution of the oceans and atmosphere; the early fossil record; palaeobiology;(2) Geochronology and isotope and elemental geochemistry;(3) Precambrian mineral deposits;(4) Geophysical aspects of the early Earth and Precambrian terrains;(5) Nature, formation and evolution of the Precambrian lithosphere and mantle including magmatic, depositional, metamorphic and tectonic processes.
