《当代遗传学》发表真核、原核微生物和细胞器的遗传学、基因组学、分子和系统水平的分析。所有文章都经过同行评审。该杂志欢迎使用任何类型的研究方法提交，无论是分析(旨在更好地理解)、应用(旨在实际应用)、综合或理论研究。目前的遗传学不再接受描述少数物种线粒体/叶绿体基因组序列的手稿。仍将考虑包括大量物种在内的序列比较和分析的手稿。

Current Genetics publishes genetic, genomic, molecular and systems-level analysis of eukaryotic and prokaryotic microorganisms and cell organelles. All articles are peer-reviewed. The journal welcomes submissions employing any type of research approach, be it analytical (aiming at a better understanding), applied (aiming at practical applications), synthetic or theoretical.Current Genetics no longer accepts manuscripts describing the genome sequence of mitochondria/chloroplast of a small number of species. Manuscripts covering sequence comparisons and analyses that include a large number of species will still be considered.
